Limited Capacity filling up

So many of us teach international cohorts – indeed, many of our groups are often made up entirely of non-Canadian students. Our perception as to why these students are here can sometimes colour how we approach them and how we teach. However, how many among us have ever considered the personal implications beyond the immigration factors for these young people? As a vocational teacher who came to Canada as an immigrant, I will highlight what underlying familial pressures, cultural biases and generational differences are affecting your international students. Building cross-cultural classrooms and centres can be both rewarding and demanding. In this workshop, we will explore how to capitalize on the power of diversity and how to find creative ways to help integrate your international students and how to make the relationship as mutually beneficial as possible.
